I would like to thank my independent living (IL) coordinator at CORD. Two years ago, I stepped into the doors of CORD not knowing how to apply for disability. I had been out of work for a while due to an autoimmune condition that attacked all of the cartilage in my knees and elbows. My knees were bone on bone and the pain so severe I could no longer walk. Severe pain left me unable to sleep or get up in the morning. I was feeling pretty hopeless.
CORD was so helpful. I didn’t know where to begin. I didn’t know if I would qualify for SSDI. I didn’t even know where to start. My IL coordinator’s calm and professional demeanor was helpful. She encouraged me to apply. She helped me to start out with the paper application so that I could organize my thoughts. She then directed me where to apply online. I had a computer at home, so I could do that part myself. She was so helpful answering my questions. I don’t think I would have taken the step without her knowledge, support, and help. I am very grateful to CORD for helping me. As a result of their help, I was able to qualify for disability.
